Divers in Caesarea find largest treasure of gold coins ever discovered in Israel
Israel Antiquities Authority official commends the divers for reporting the treasure: “They discovered the gold and have a heart of gold that loves the country and its history. Scuba divers have uncovered the largest treasure trove ever discovered off Israel’s Mediterranean coast. The group initially thought they had found a toy coin on the ocean floor before tests confirmed the gold pieces were treasure. Experts who eventually counted 2000 pieces, dating back to more than 1000 years, described the discovery as ‘priceless’.
