A silver round is a privately minted piece of silver that generally comes in a round, coin-shape. They are produced by private mints and have no legal tender status as they are not government issued.
History of the Silver Round
The history of the round goes back to the 1970s, when private mints began producing rounds to meet the growing demand for physical bullion. Since then, they have become popular, particularly for those who wish to own physical silver bearing different designs not linked to any monarchy or state. The designs on silver rounds are also less restrictive and some very interesting designs can be found.
A silver round is essentially a round bar of assayed silver.
Benefits of Owning Silver Rounds
Rounds are an alternative to bullion coins and bars for investors and provide a choice of interesting designs that have proven popular with collectors too.
There are a wide selection of private mints that offer rounds, making their unique designs highly sought-after by collectors.
Rounds and coins are made exactly the same way, but the process can be simpler occasionally making the purchase price of silver rounds lower.

Silver Round Production
Both rounds and coins start as molten silver which is poured into an ingot. The ingot is sent through a rolling mill, formed into a thin silver strip, and then pressed.
They are typically stamped on both the obverse and reverse with symbolic and meaningful designs. They are marked with their metal content and purity but don’t carry a currency denomination and don’t tend to have a date either.
Each 1oz silver round typically contains 31.1035 grams of 999.0 fine Silver.
Bleyer Bullion Silver Round
In 2020 we decided to create our own Bleyer Bullion 1oz Silver “Unity” Rounds to raise money for charity. They have a limited edition of 50 and were hand poured by Backyard Bullion. Each 1oz silver round contains a minimum of 1 troy ounce (31.1035 grams) of 999.9 fine silver.
100% of the profit made from these rounds has been and will be shared between the charities NDADA and CALM.
