Lunar Horse Coin Background
The Horse is the seventh of all zodiac animals. In Chinese culture, they represent speed and freedom. Many Northern ethnicities, such as the Mongolians and Manchurians, revere and worship the horse.
This celebrates the 7th animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. The birth dates for people ruled by the Chinese Lunar Horse include 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014, and 2026. Horses are full of energy, albeit a bit too much. Both studious and athletic, they are strong believers in chasing after their dreams.
The Perth Mint produces Lunar coins in 1oz Gold, 1kg Silver, 10oz Silver, and 1oz Silver.
Lunar Horse Coin Design
The reverse of each coin a horse running through a meadow with the distant mountains in the background. The Chinese character for ‘Horse’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Horse’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2014 year-date and the monetary denomination are shown on each coin’s obverse. These coins are quite beautiful. A lovely addition to your collection or a unique gift for family or friends.
The Perth Mint Background
The Perth Mint opened in 1899 in response to the discovery of rich gold deposits in Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie. The heritage building was situated in the heart of Perth, the capital and largest city of Western Australia. It was Australia’s third branch of Britain’s Royal Mint – the others being the Sydney Mint and the Melbourne Mint (both closed). In 1970, the authority for The Perth Mint was transferred to the State of Western Australia. The Perth Mint gold and silver bullion coins have been issued as legal tender under the authority of the Australian Federal Government ever since.
