The Tower of London Quintuple Gold Sovereign Series

The Royal Mint celebrates one of the most iconic Royal Palaces of the United Kingdom with this series.

The Tower of London, the White Tower, was built nearly a thousand years ago, by William the Conqueror, it is located on the Banks of the River Thames and has a rich history. The Tower’s long life has seen it bear witness to some of the notable events from our history,  including Anne Boelyn who was imprisoned and executed there,  it was also the base of operations for the Royal Mint for over five hundred years. It was even London’s very first Zoo. In the current century, it is home to the Crown Jewels and is guarded by the Yeoman Warders.

The crown featured on Crown Jewels coin is that of Mary Modena, who was the wife of James II. Three crowns were made for her, the goldsmith Richard De Beauvoir in 1685: coronation crown, as state crow and a diadem. The coronation crown no longer exists but the other two pieces reside in the main collection of the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London.

Every night, for about 700 years, the Yeoman Warders,  have performed a gate-closing ritual known as the Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower of London. This is specifically and strictly time guided and is carried out with precision.

The Tower is also closely symbiotic with the resident ravens, it is not known when the ravens first came to the Tower of London, but their presence there is surrounded by myth and legend. Unusually for birds of ill omen, the future of both Country and Kingdom relies upon their continued residence, for according to legend, at least six ravens must remain lest both Tower and Monarchy fall.

The £5 Gold Coin Quintuple sovereign is produced from 22-carat (91.67% fineness) gold, weighs 39.94 grams and contains a total of 36.613 grams of fine gold (the same amount of gold content and face value as five full sovereigns). Due to their status as British Legal tender, this coin is a Capital Gains Tax free investment in the UK.
