They have a production capacity of more than 2,400 tonnes of high purity silver and 100 tonnes of gold per year, making it one of the world’s largest refineries. The company also refines platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium, and ruthenium.
Umicore’s gold refining process is highly efficient and environmentally friendly. The company uses a combination of hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical techniques to recover gold from a variety of sources, including electronic scrap, spent autocatalysts, and industrial waste.
They have a number of facilities around the world, including:
- Hoboken, Belgium – This is the company’s headquarters and largest refinery.
- Krefeld, Germany – This refinery has a production capacity of 500 tonnes of silver per year.
- Saint-Amand-les-Eaux, France – This refinery has a production capacity of 400 tonnes of silver per year.
