The next in Tuvalu’s Marvel series has arrived! We’re very pleased to announce – The 2018 Deadpool Coin is now available in 1oz Silver.
Deadpool
Deadpool (Wade Winston Wilson) is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Initially, Deadpool was depicted as a supervillain but later evolved into his more recognizable antiheroic persona. In 2016, 20th Century Fox released a film after an unconventional marketing campaign which allowed to to become both a financial and critical success. It earned over $783 million against a $58 million budget, breaking numerous records: it became the highest-grossing R-rated film, the highest-grossing X-Men film, and the ninth-highest-grossing 2016 film.
Deadpool is a disfigured mercenary with the superhuman ability of an accelerated healing factor and physical prowess. The character is known as the “Merc with a Mouth” because of his tendency to joke constantly, including his proclivity for breaking the fourth wall, a literary device used by the writers for humorous effect and running gags.
Deadpool Coin Design
As with the rest of the Marvel Coin series, the inspiration for the design is firmly based on the comics and not the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Deadpool pictured here isn’t the Ryan Reynolds one, but an altogether more imposing version. Clean and to the point, it’s a good interpretation and carries on the style of the series.
The Deadpool coin’s reverse features an exceptionally fearsome rendition of the comic hero, armed with a pair of deadly katanas. This is also coupled with the ‘Deadpool’ title and the Deadpool emblem in the background. The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with a proof-like finish can be found on the obverse.
Tuvalu, the tiny South Pacific island nation has started to develop a strong reputation by being the sovereign government responsible for these exciting superhero coins. The series debuted in 2017 and now has instalments of Spiderman, Thor, Black Panther, Iron Man and now the Deadpool coin!
