Although struck from 99.99% pure silver, this pre-owned coin displays an attractive golden tone across the surface. The coins has been professionally tested using an XRF analyser, confirming a silver purity of 99.99% with no gold content present.

The golden appearance is a known effect seen on some Royal Canadian Mint silver proof coins produced between 2011 and 2018. Over time, the original protective coating applied by the mint can naturally change colour when exposed to environmental conditions, creating a gold or copper-toned finish while still protecting the silver underneath.

The original mint images have been digitally adjusted to reflect the coin’s present golden coloration and are for illustrative purposes only; images are not of the actual coins.

Royal Canadian Mint The Forgotten 1927 Designs

This sought-after pre-owned collection revives three unused circulation coin concepts originally created for Canada’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 1927. Each coin is struck in one ounce of fine silver and showcases historic designs that were carefully reinterpreted by Royal Canadian Mint engravers using the original sketches, bringing these forgotten artistic visions to life for Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017.

Limited to a worldwide mintage of just 5,500 sets, this beautifully presented release is highly collectible among both Canadian coin enthusiasts and modern silver proof collectors.

The Designs

The original 1927 concepts have been faithfully adapted using modern engraving techniques, including a striking reverse proof finish that contrasts brilliant frosted details against a matte background.

The One-Cent Coin

Designed by renowned Canadian artist Gustav Hahn (1866-1962), the one-cent coin features an elegant Art Nouveau-inspired arrangement of maple leaves surrounding the commemorative dates “1867-2017”.

The Five-Cent Coin

Created by Canadian artist J.E.H. MacDonald (1873-1932), the five-cent design depicts a crowned lion standing atop a rocky outcrop while gripping a maple leaf. Beneath the lion appears Canada’s national motto, A MARI USQUE AD MARE (“From Sea to Sea”), while the dates “1867” and “2017” are inscribed above.

The Twenty-Five Cent Coin

MacDonald’s second design appears on the 25-cent coin and showcases a soaring view of the iconic Peace Tower on Parliament Hill. Encircled by a ribbon-wrapped laurel wreath, four hanging bells pay tribute to the Dominion Carillon inaugurated during the 1927 Diamond Jubilee celebrations. The engraved numbers on the bells combine to form the dates “1867” and “2017”.

The obverse designs feature the effigy of King George V, who reigned from 1910 to 1936.

This pre-owned three-coin silver set offers a fascinating glimpse into Canada’s numismatic history and makes an exceptional addition to any world coin or modern commemorative collection.

The Royal Canadian Mint Background

The Royal Canadian Mint is the mint of Canada and a crown corporation, operating under the Royal Canadian Mint Act. The Mint produces all of Canada’s circulation coins and manufactures circulation coins on behalf of other nations.

In operation since 1911, The Royal Canadian Mint operates one of the most technically advanced and respected gold and silver refineries in the world, producing bars, coins and other custom products. The Royal Canadian Mint began refining gold to 9999 fine purity in the mid-1960’s. In 1982, the refinery became the worlds’ first to produce 9999 bullion coins, an achievement surpassed in 1998 when they reached “five nines” purity levels. Today, they are even able to produce granulation gold that is 99999 fine.

The Mint also designs and manufactures precious and base metal collector coins in gold, silver, palladium and platinum, as well as medallions and tokens. It also offers a gold and silver refinery and assay service.
