In 1967 the Krugerrand became was world’s first modern bullion gold coin. The silver Krugerrand was first introduced in 2017 to commemorate 50 years of the Krugerrand.
The South African Mint produces Krugerrand coins in 1oz Gold and 1oz Silver.
Krugerrand Coin Design
The reverse design of the silver Krugerrand features a beautiful prancing springbok, one of South Africa’s national symbols. It was originally designed and engraved by the famous South African sculptor, Coert Steynberg. The obverse depicts the bust of the 1967 president of the Republic, Paul Kruger. The new Krugerrand bullion range bear the same obverse and reverse design as the original 1967 coins.
