1oz Gold Tudor Beasts Yale of Beaufort Coin Background
During the reign of Henry VIII, majestic beasts stood guard over the moat of Hampton Court Palace, representing the King and the powerful Tudor dynasty. They were chosen to symbolise strength, leadership and courage.
The Gold Tudor Beasts Yale of Beaufort is the second release in the bullion coin collection. The Yale of Beaufort was said to add credibility to King Henry’s claim to the throne and symbolises a proud defence. The mythical creature, the Yale, was used by Henry VIII to emphasise his family connection to the Beauforts, who were a powerful royal family from the House of Lancaster.
The reverse of the coin depicts the Yale holding a shield which features part of Jane Seymour’s coat of arms. The coat of arms consists of three lions in the centre with three fleur-de-lis on each side and was awarded to Jane Seymour’s father, Edward Seymour, when King Henry married Jane. The bold design features a chainmail surface animation background texture which provides an additional security feature.
All ten coins of the Royal Tudor Beasts collection have been designed by David Lawrence who is an illustrator and sculptor with more than 30 years experience which includes coin design.
The second in the bullion series, The Tudor Beasts Yale of Beaufort is also available in 2oz silver, 10oz silver and 1/4oz gold.
