Coin Design
The reverse design of the Pay Attention 007 2020 UK Quarter-Ounce Gold Proof Coin features the iconic “Wet Nellie” submarine car from the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me. The vehicle is shown in a sleek side profile, emerging from stylised waves with a sharp, modern composition that reflects the high-tech innovation associated with Bond’s gadgets. Above the design appears the inscription “PAY ATTENTION 007”, referencing Q Branch’s famous instruction to Bond before demonstrating a new invention.
The design was created by Matt Dent and Christian Davies as part of The Royal Mint’s three-coin James Bond series released in 2020. The coin combines clean contemporary lines with polished proof finishes, giving the submarine car a striking contrast against the mirrored background.
The obverse features the fifth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark, alongside the denomination of £25.
