For this new release of gold Britannia bars, The Royal Mint has increased their security level significantly. These bear resemblance to the security features that were introduced to the Britannia coins in 2021.
The new security features on the physical bars are as follows (as described by TRM):
- Micro-Text: “Micro-text around the edge of Britannia’s shield spells out the words ‘DECUS ET TUTAMEN’, which translates to ‘an ornament and a safeguard’.”
- Surface Animation: “Textured animation creates a wave motion behind Britannia when the bar is moved.”
- Latent Image: “A latent image switches between a trident and a padlock when the bar is rotated.”
There are also security features for the bar packaging. Available to be seen in natural light, there is QR code ‘CERTIEYE®’ which provides instant product authentication, along with a serial number that matches what is printed on the bar itself. Under UV light, there is a watermark that will turn luminescent on the transparent part of the packaging. Along with this, UV will expose whether the bar has been tampered with due to the light-reactive seal.
