We are delighted to announce the return of the Australian Gold and Silver Kangaroo coins.
These kangaroo coins are part of the 2022 Perth Mint Coin Series, including The Lunar Year of the Tiger and the Kookaburra coins.
The Australian Kangaroo
Kangaroos are very symbolic of Australia. They have been used as mascots, logos and emblems for Australian companies and sports teams, and they are even presented in the Australian coats of arms.
The Kangaroo’s natural habitat is in Australia and are mainly present in the desert and grass areas. The Australian climate’s aridity provides them protection from predators.
Along with the wallabies, Kangaroos are marsupials that belong to a small group of animals called macropods.
One of Kangaroo’s distinctive traits is the way they walk. They hop by balancing the body with their tail which allows them to reach a maximum speed of 55km/h.

The Gold Coin Design
The 1oz gold kangaroo bullion coin is also known as the ‘Nugget’ and features a design that changes every year of Australia’s national animal, the Kangaroo.
Neil Hollis designs the beautiful, brand new 2022 gold coin. The coin design portrays a Kangaroo and its Joey (baby Kangaroo) jumping across an outback bush scene.
It also includes the inscription ‘KANGAROO’ and the Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark and the purity, coin weight, and year-date.

The Silver Coin Design
The 2022 Australian Silver Kangaroo features the same beautiful design as when the silver coin debuted in 2016.
The coin portrays a left profile of a red kangaroo hopping while surrounded by sunshine rays.
Along the border at the top is the inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO’, and along the bottom is the purity, year-date and the weight of the coin.
