“To commemorate the visit of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in October 1986, the Government of Hong Kong has authorised the Royal Mint to strike a limited number of gold proof and gold uncirculated $1,000 coins. The obverse design features the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The reverse design features the Hong Kong Coat of Arms modelled by Royal Mint engraver, Robert Elderton, ARBS, FIPG. Above appears the inscription ‘Royal Visit 1986’ and below the denominational value.”
