The American Eagle Coin Background

The American Eagle Coin Design
In honour of the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle, a new design was introduced mid way through 2021. Both the Gold and Silver coins have received an update in design since their introduction in 1986. The new obverse design of the Gold Eagle features Lady Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch and an olive branch. The overall look of this side feels more pronounced but little change. It was originally produced by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for the US Mint’s limited edition Double Eagle coins in the early 1900s. The reverse has changed the most, featuring a male eagle carrying an olive branch, protecting a nest containing a female eagle and her hatchlings.
The United States Mint
The U.S. Mint is the sole manufacturer of legal tender coins within the United States. It was set up by Congress in Philadelphia with the Coinage Act of 1792 and originally placed within the Department of State. The first general-circulation coin of the United States, the Fugio cent, was produced in 1787 based on the continental dollar.
