The obverse of this coin features a bust of Leopold II, The monarch known as “The Builder King” due to the many properties that he commissioned. Minted 1870-1882.
The reverse features the Belgian coat of arms, with the inscription L’UNION FAIT LA FORCE along the top of the coin. This was the motto used by Belgium after it’s revolution in 1830-1831 when Belgium gained independence from the United Kingdom of the Netherlands.
