Gold UK First Twelve Sided Pound Coin

With a limited mintage of 2017 coins in this presentation, this coin is a valuable collectors item, minted in 2017 to commemorate the start of the 12 sided pound. Although the £1 coin has borne 24 circulating designs over the years, this is the biggest overhaul of the pound since it switched to the “round pound” from £1 Notes in April of 1983. This twelve sided pound is perfect as either an investment piece or as a commemoration of this moment in the UK’s history.

The coin’s 12 sided shape and bimetallic appearance, along with the other visible security features, have been implemented to challenge sophisticated counterfeiting directly.

The obverse of the coin displays the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and below this is a slightly holographic £ sign. Round the edge is the year (2017) followed by ELIZABETH II•D•G•REG•F•D. The reverse of the coin provided a rare opportunity for the nation to play a part in the design of this coin. David Pearce was the chosen artist for this coin and his interpretation of traditional floral emblems were embellished onto the coin (he was only 15 when his design was chosen).  Underneath are the words “ONE POUND”, indicating it’s face value. Made of 22 carat gold, this coin is a beautiful display piece that will fit well in any home or collection.

The Royal Mint Background

The Royal Mint is a national treasure, making beautifully crafted coins and medals for countries all over the world. Over a thousand years of craftsmanship and artistry ensures every piece they strike is a long lasting piece of history.

The last round pound and any other coins produced by The Royal Mint are a staple of any UK bullion investors portfolio for a number of different reasons: As well as being competitively priced, Royal Mint coins with face value are UK legal tender and hence Capital Gains Tax free. By purchasing UK coins eligible for CGT exemption you can avoid paying tax over the profit you make, the amount of this CGT free profit won’t affect or decrease the limit of tax free profit on your other investments either.

The Royal Mint is listed as an active Good Delivery Refiner by the London Bullion Market Association.
