The Chinese Gold Panda has been issued since 1982 and has a 99.99% gold content. Panda coins denominated in troy ounces were discontinued by the Chinese mint at the end of 2015 because China has adopted the metric system. Current year gold panda coins are now available in the following sizes:
1g, 3g, 8g, 15g, 30g.
The Panda coin is different to many other coins due to the annually changing design. The reverse of the panda always has the Temple of Heaven, Beijing displayed, the border of Scriptures and the date changes depending on the year. The obverse of the coin depicts the denomination and Panda bears, these illustrations change every year. In 1982 the coin had no nominal value but since then its face value has increased in line with the steady rise in the price of gold.
The Chinese are well known by those interested in physical gold as probably being the largest net buyer of gold in the world. There is a large market for these coins in China since they are a nation that has always valued this commodity, traditionally the international supply of these coins can sometimes be quite unreliable.
We have found an advertisement video for the Chinese Gold Panda Coins but unfortunately the quality isn't fantastic, we hope to find a better version in the future, if you see one please do let us know.
